Privacy Policy

Bandroom exists to teach people to read music. Education comes first, always — and that includes how we treat your information. We collect as little as we can, we use it only to run and improve the learning experience, and we will never sell it or trade it. The wellbeing of every learner is the point of this whole thing, and that principle guides every decision below.

Who we are

Bandroom is a music-theory learning product — a website at www.bandroom.ai and the learning app you can use once you sign up. This policy covers both.

What we collect

We keep this deliberately small — only what we need to teach you:

  • Your account details — such as the email address you sign up with, so we can create and secure your account.
  • Your learning progress — the lessons you complete, answers, streaks and achievements, so the app can track how you’re doing and pick up where you left off.
  • Optional profile information you choose to add, and preferences that tailor your experience.
  • Basic, anonymous usage data about how the site and app are used, so we can improve them. See “Analytics and cookies” below.

We don’t collect anything we don’t need to run Bandroom and help you learn.

How we use it

We use your information to:

  • Run your account and save your progress,
  • Personalise and improve your learning experience,
  • Keep Bandroom secure and working properly, and
  • Send you important messages about your account or the service.

We will not sell your data or hand it to advertisers, and we won’t bombard you with marketing you didn’t ask for. Any optional updates we send always include a way to opt out.

Children and young learners

Bandroom is built for learners of many ages, and some of them are children. We take that responsibility seriously — it is central to what we are, not an afterthought.

  • For younger learners, an account should be created and overseen by a parent, guardian, or teacher, and, where the law requires it, we seek verifiable parental consent before collecting a child’s personal information.
  • Children’s accounts are designed for safety: we collect only what is needed to teach, we do not use children’s data for advertising or profiling, and we do not knowingly build behavioural profiles of young learners.
  • We do not knowingly collect more personal information from a child than is necessary. If you believe a child has provided us information without appropriate consent, contact us and we will address it promptly.

Protecting young learners is not a compliance checkbox for us — it is part of what Bandroom is for. A learning tool that isn’t safe for the people using it isn’t worth building.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your data. We never will. We share it only with the services that make Bandroom work, and only what those services need:

  • Our infrastructure and hosting providers, which run the app and securely store data on our behalf.
  • Our email provider, which delivers account and service emails.
  • Our analytics provider, which gives us anonymous, aggregated information about usage.

These providers are bound by their own privacy obligations and may only use your information to provide their service to us — not for their own purposes. We may also disclose information if required by law.

Analytics and cookies

We use privacy-respecting analytics to understand, in aggregate, how Bandroom is used and where it can be better. This may set cookies in your browser. This data is not used to identify you personally, and we do not build advertising profiles. You can block cookies in your browser settings at any time.

Your rights

You are in control of your information. At any time, you can ask us to:

  • Show you what we hold about you,
  • Correct it if it is wrong,
  • Delete your account and data, or
  • Stop using it for optional purposes.

Just contact us and we will act on it. Depending on where you live, you may have additional legal rights (for example under the GDPR or CCPA), and we honour those.

Keeping your data safe

We use reputable providers and reasonable technical measures to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, but we keep what we collect to a minimum precisely so there is less to protect.

Changes to this policy

As Bandroom grows, we may update this policy and change the “last updated” date above. If we make a meaningful change to how we handle your data, we will tell you.
